Earthen Dam Removal in New Mexico
There are a significant number of low-hazard earthen dams nearing the end of their lifespan in New Mexico, a new report from the Utton Center's Rin Tara shows. The report notes that these dams may be good candidates for modification to meet current needs or, in some cases, removal. The sociopolitical context for these dams varies greatly by community, and thus the report is intended to kickstart conversation about certain earthen dams that have outlived their intended lifespan.
